History

According to many archaeologists, Native American tribes have lived in the area almost continuously since 13,000 B.C. Many native groups used the area to hunt, fish and trade among themselves. In the 18th century, European explorers settled lands in and around Nashville. The first to come to this part of Tennessee were French fur traders who found a willing partner in local native tribes. Before the city got its current name, it was known as French Lick and Sulphur Spring Bottom.

Parks and Recreation

Major parks in the city include Shelby Park and the Radnor Lake State Natural Area. Spots of interest within the 1,332 acres that comprise Radnor Lake include Tims Ford, Fall Creek Falls and Cedars of Lebanon. Events

Each year in the month of April, the city hosts a large musical act each weekend. As there are so many acts during that month, they have simply called the event Awesome April. Other events in the area that you may want to visit include the Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon as well as the The Antiques & Garden Show that takes place in February.

Music lovers will want to check out the Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame while the Tennessee State Capitol Building is worth going to for those who enjoy history and government.
